While the City of Regina welcomes immigrants and wants to help you settle in quickly, it is important to know that there are other levels of government that will also serve you.
Here is a very short description, with a focus on those areas that are of special interest to immigrants:
- The City of Regina, is the most local level of government and administers municipal services. There are also local, publicly-run services such as school systems, police services, the public library system and the local health region that provides hospitals and related services.
- The government of the Province of Saskatchewan, whose capital city is Regina, carries primary responsibility for provincial health and education policy, and for many other areas of province-wide interest. This includes crown corporations that provide electricity, natural gas, highways, bus transportation and other services. The provincial government also has an agreement with the federal government to provide certain immigration services.
- At the national level, the Government of Canada, is the senior government responsible for immigration, as well as many other national services including the Employment Insurance and the Canada Pension Plan.
